CAPRICCIO; A CRITICAL REVALUATION, 2018

Originally a genre of Renaissance landscape painting, the capriccio is perhaps best understood as a manner of invention dedicated to the very principle of invention itself. As Baldinucci first defined it, it is not specifically an architectural fantasy or something monstrous, but a ‘dreamlike vision’ arising out of the free play of the imagination.

This model emerged from thesis research into the architectural capriccio, and reads as a 3-dimensional timeline, tracking the genre's operation at all scales, from meticulously composed objects to incidental, geological creations at city-scale and to super-real virtual gamescapes.
